Can Golo Diet Plan Help You Lose Weight?

What Is the GOLO Diet and Does the Plan Work for Weight Loss?

You've decided you want to lose weight. You're eating nutritious foods, staying hydrated, and exercising. You're even sleeping enough!but nothing seems to be happening. Could it be some strange hormonal issue messing with your ability to lose weight?

That could very well be the case. The GOLO diet zeros in on the hormone insulin as being an issue for people who are doing everything right but still can't seem to lose weight. Insulin levels can interfere with weight loss even if you’re eating healthy foods and exercising regularly because it causes fat storage and slows your metabolism.

GOLO diet offers a plan that promises to help you lose weight by balancing hormones that affect weight, helping to regulate blood sugar levels, supporting proper glucose metabolism and managing fatigue, while allowing your body to become naturally efficient at releasing stored fat versus storing it. But is the GOLO diet actually effect for weight loss, and more importantly, is it safe? Here's what you need to know about the GOLO diet and program before jumping in.

What Is the GOLO Diet?

The GOLO diet's tagline is "go lose weight, go look great, go love life,"and was developed by a group of doctors and pharmacists. It was based on the idea that balancing hormones is the missing link to successful weight loss. Hormone imbalances trigger stress and anxiety, cause hunger, fatigue,  cravings, poor sleep quality, and other symptoms all which drive emotional decisions like overeating, bingeing, and cravings for fatty or high sugar foods.

Though, is that it's not just something you can do it Yourself. The GOLO diet is a purchasable plan. You are purchasing the lifestyle plan and what the company calls the Release supplement. The supplement is supposed to be taken three times a day with meals, in addition to their proposed diet changes, and 15 minutes of daily exercise.

There are no "counting points, drinking shakes, or eating diet foods", so what is the GOLO diet plan, or what is it exactly that you're buying? The answer is actually unclear: Your body needs the nutrients from the right foods in the right portions and at the right times. Vague at best. Take a deeper look and you'll realize that's all the detail you get until you "swipe" your credit card charging $50 for a 30-day supply of the Release supplement, the GOLO metabolic plan and a myGOLO membership.

How does the GOLO diet work?

GOLO is based on the concept that getting your insulin under control,  rather than simply reducing caloric intake or cutting out entire food groups , is the key to a properly functioning metabolism; once your metabolism is working better, you can lose weight and keep it off more easily,.

There are several hormones that are thought to be involved in appetite, metabolism, and weight management, and GOLO focuses on insulin, which is supposed to regulate your blood sugar. Simply put, when your insulin isn’t doing its job of distributing energy to your cells, the sugar stays in your blood and your body stores the extra as fat. The idea behind GOLO is that it’ll get your insulin and blood sugar levels where they belong, thus helping you use energy efficiently.

Can you lose weight on the GOLO diet?

Basically, it's unclear. As mentioned, GOLO cites multiple studies on its website as proof that the diet program really works, but the studies were paid for by the company and they weren't found in the peer-reviewed National Library of Medicine database.

And while it's important for weight loss to eat a healthy, balanced diet and monitor your caloric intake,  it's important to be cautious about GOLO's claims regarding insulin.

Here's the deal: When your body releases insulin, you start to feel hungry. GOLO's Release supplement, however, aims to keep insulin levels from rising and essentially trick you into eating less frequently. How these plant extracts and minerals actually balance hormones and help you lose weight.

Is This GOLO Program Worth it?

If you already know how to eat less and exercise more, signing yourself up for the GOLO Metabolic Plan is essentially just signing yourself up for a supplement delivery service. The supplement is a crapshoot: It may help you slim down faster, but there’s no way to know for sure until there’s research comparing two control groups,  those who eat less calories and exercise without the GOLO supplement and those who include them in their diet and exercise regimen. Until such unbiased, third-party research exists, eating less and exercising more is a much cheaper and proven weight loss solution.
